May our daughters be ungovernable

With these artworks I wanted to combine girls from around the world, expressing different emotions, cultures, abilities and personalities. Where ungovernable to me expresses freedom to be, without the invisible walls of social norms. I know and have known many stubborn little girls, with so much free will and quirky personalities, that has gotten told to keep their spark down due to social norms or expectations. In my drawings there are no such things, there these girls are untamed and unapologetically themselves. They are also watched over different local animals from their countries or continents fauna, watching over them and keeping them safe from those invisible walls of expectation. These animal companions represents the fantastic wilderness and magical essence that lives within every little child.

I’m Elin, a storyteller at heart with a lifelong love for mythology, folklore, and local legends. Rooted in Sweden’s rich history and magical landscapes, I followed my childhood fascination and earned an MA in Archaeology and a BA in Cultural Heritage Studies.
